Quilt creation
A SPECIAL quilted creation is on display at the London 2012 sailing venue to celebrate Weymouth and Portland’s contribution to the Games.
All the designs of the panels are original and reflect aspects of the local area using a variety of materials including individually made fabrics.
Six members of Loada Patchers Quilters presented the quilt to academy business manager Chris Knight, who said it would be displayed in the canteen, a popular haunt for the world’s best sailors.
All the quilters are contributors to Project Linus UK, a volunteer organisation that makes quilts as gifts for sick, disabled or distressed children.
Angela Hartle, Coordinator for the West Dorset branch of Project Linus, said: “The finished quilt was an indicator of the level of skill and effort that people put into making Project Linus quilts – it also made a nice change to make a ‘grown-up’ quilt occasionally.”
Games song
TOMORROW will see the release of the official Team GB and Paralympics GB song for the Games – ‘One Vision’.
Portland’s Olympic contenders Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell will be among those gathering at The Royal Albert Hall to hear the debut performance and to celebrate at the ‘Our Greatest Team Rises’ launch party.
The event, which is an official launch party for Team GB and Paralympics GB to mark the final countdown to the Games, will also be attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate.
The One Vision song was a massive hit for band, Queen.
It will be performed by Tenor Alfie Boe, and Girls Aloud pop star Kimberley Walsh, accompanied by the choir Youth Music Voices.
Dancing around
YOUNG dancers aged 16 to 25 years from any dance background are invited to get involved in the creation of a new dance.
The project will be bringing traditional moves into the multi-media environment of the ICCI 360 Dome, on the Pavilion forecourt during the Paralympic sailing events.
The new dance will be in traditional Cotswold Morris style.
