TEAM Tesco will be making its presence felt as women make a move in the fight against cancer.

A team of at least 20 female employees from the Dorchester supermarket will be lining up alongside thousands of other women for the Race for Life at Kingston Maurward on Sunday, May 20.

They are also encouraging others to take part in the event, which sees women of all ages and abilities walk, jog or run the 5km route, to help raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK.

Tesco community champion Lisa Bedford, who will be among the staff taking on the route, said: “Race for Life means a great deal to our staff as all of us know someone who has been affected by cancer and Race for Life raises money to fight over 200 different cancers.”

As well as sponsoring the Race for Life, Tesco has also selected Cancer Research UK as its charity of the year and is hoping to help it raise £10million for projects supporting early diagnosis to help people beat cancer.

The Tesco team from Dorchester are hoping to do their bit by raising £500 within the store and have Race for Life buckets at the checkouts and customer service desk.

Last year 2,098 women took part in the Dorchester Race for Life and between them raised an impressive £109.861.

This time round organisers are hoping to see 2,500 women taking part and have set a fundraising target of £130,000 to help Cancer Research UK’s vital research.

South West events manager Sam Beare said so far over 1,300 women had signed up to take part and she was still hoping to reach the target with further entries before the closing date of May 17.
