Golden ball
THE Sail for Gold Ball will be taking place next month in support of Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic sailors in their quest for medals at the 2012 Olympic Games.
Held in every Olympic year only, the Ball has a justifiable reputation as the most significant social event in the Olympic and Paralympic Classes sailing calendar.
It is taking place on Wednesday, June 13 and will include the sailors selected to compete for Team GB and Paralympics GB in Weymouth and Portland as well as Britain’s sailing medallists and guests from the worlds of commerce, politics, the arts and the media.
The Ball aims to be a rousing send off for our sailors in addition to being an inspiring, enjoyable and fun packed occasion.
Exhibition
THE Great Exhibition 2012 would like to invite the whole of the country to join an online community and to nominate their own personal ‘Great’ of Great Britain.
As the host nation for the Olympic Games, 2012 is a year to celebrate the country’s finest.
All are welcome to register an ambassador, create a Great and share videos, photographs, and stories with the nation to encourage your community to vote for what/who/where you think is Great.
The borough’s Maritime Mix, cultural Olympiad by the sea, Portland Harbour, Monkey World and the Tank Museum are among the local attractions registered.
Talent show star Susan Boyle is currently in first place.
Vote online at thegreatexhibition2012.co.uk
