THE £600,000 Southern Gas Network replacement project will be completely finished by the end of next week.
A spokesman for Southern Gas Network said: “This large engineering project to provide a safe and secure gas supply for Weymouth is due to come to an end.
“Throughout the work we have been working closely with Wessex Water and Dorset County Council to plan work accordingly so it actually reduces disruption.
“This was essential work and we would like to thank residents and traders for the patience.
“Any business which can prove they have suffered a loss of trade through our essential work can apply for our compensation scheme and we look at each case on an individual basis.
“All that is left to do is some finishing off and road-resurfacing but most of the disruption is over.
“We called off all work over the Bank Holiday weekend to minimise disruption.”
Water main project 'had no impact'
A spokesman for Wessex Water said: “Our water main work took place along an alleyway which meant it had no impact on traffic or local traders. “It didn’t require a road closure and the work to lay the new water main was completed over a month ago and in just three weeks.”
Water works took place over the first three weeks of March and were completed around March 20.
