A SCOUT group has got a new home after 12 years of dedicated fundraising.
Now Weymouth North Scouts are calling for volunteers from their new base in Radipole.
From table-top sales to backpacking, the scouts have been involved in a host of fundraising activities, which have finally paid off.
Weymouth North Scouts Group Leader David Meech opened the new base after being involved with Scouting in the area for more than 50 years.
Mayor of Weymouth and Portland, Graham Winter, joined Scouts and leaders alongside those who had helped raise funds to celebrate the opening where a plaque was also unveiled.
Group Leader Steve Parkes said they are now calling for adult volunteers who are looking for fun, challenges and adventure. He said: “We are all really pleased with the new Scouts base but we desperately need volunteers.
“The group is in desperate need of new leaders, inparticular in the Beaver Scout and Cub Scout sections. Both sections have waiting lists for new members that can’t join the group due to the lack of adult help.”
Project Manager Darren Phillips thanked all those who provided money, materials or helped fundraise to build the new base.
Among those companies who donated materials were Coastal Plumbing, Stanton Garage and Hardy Signs.
Weymouth and Portland Lions Club and all Weymouth-based Rotary clubs donated funds alongside a long list of others.
