A POSSIBLE merger of two day centres in Weymouth could form part of plans to reshape Dorset’s day services.
Members of Dorset County Council’s cabinet have given the go-ahead to consultation over the services in the county as the authority looks to save £600,000 by 2014.
Among the proposals being considered is the merger of the Fernhill and Acorns day centres in Weymouth, although no decision will be made before staff, service users, carers and other affected people are consulted.
A report on the proposals will come back to the cabinet in July.
In a review of the service, it was revealed that most day centres are looking to expand their services and generate income with members keen to allow people to fund their own care access to day centres.
A number of centres are also looking at providing drop-in facilities for things such as respite care.
Cost-saving measures proposed include the removal of current vacant posts and a reduction in some staffing hours.
Cabinet member for adult social care Andrew Cattaway said: “We know that day services are highly valued and make a vital contribution to meeting people’s needs.
“We want to ensure these services can be maintained and developed for the future and that they are in line with people’s needs.”
