I refer to the letter ‘Road should fit seaside theme’ from Sylvia Jarvis (Echo April 26).

We also moved to Dorset last year and I agree with her sentiments.

A town that is hosting an event in the Olympic Games should be well ahead with its planting by now.

If councillors seek inspiration, they only need go as far as Yeovil to see the imaginative planting and sculptures on their roundabouts. We have made a few trips recently out that way, towards the M5.

There has been a huge display of daffodils since January and an eye-catching bedroom sculpture on the roundabouts – all sponsored by local businesses.

Bulbs and perennials are a relatively low-cost, low-maintenance way of improving the look of a town and will continue year in, year out, to lift the spirits of the passing motorists.

There is also a wealth of imaginative artists, potters and sculptors who would love the opportunity to showcase their work in and around the town.

Come on Weymouth – it’s time you should be out there planting, especially with all this lovely rain to bed the plants in!
