Hoping everyone had a pleasant Easter. Few updates on upcoming events; Abbotsbury Beachcombers are having a fund-raising St. George’s day quiz at the Swan inn on the 21st April, at 7.30 for 8.00pm. Teams of up to four can take part for a £1 each person; It’s usually a lot of fun. Portesham Primary School is having a bingo at the School on the 20th April with lots of great prizes including hampers and there will also be a raffle. The bingo starts at 6pm for 6.30pm.
The Royal British Legion (Abbotsbury and Portesham branch) are having a talk on “Hats” by Roger Snook on 3rd May at Strangways hall in Abbotsbury at 7.30pm. Roger is the organiser of the Bridport Hat festival, now in its fourth year. Visitors are welcome to attend and £2 entrance will include a hot drink and items will be available for purchase.
Sue Melville has given me an update on the Olympic sails project. She says that the designs are wonderful, and can't wait to see them in place. The next workshop is on July 7th in the Strangways Hall from 9.00am to 6.00pm when they will be assembling and erecting them ready for July 12th and the Olympic torch. She would also like to thank all those who have donated wooden curtain rings. The table top sale at wheelwrights raised £62.91 which will go towards poles and whipping twine. The next fund-raising event will be a coffee morning and sale at 1 West Street from 10.30am to 12.30pm on 18th May. Sue would also like to thank anyone that has given their time, effort and has donated money to this project.
There will be a meeting about the Jubilee celebrations at Strangways hall on Tuesday 16th April evening at 7.30pm.
