WE HAVE started Langton Lines - this is an information/reminder e-mail of what is going on in the village and also for you to share happenings or news; just let me know what you would like included and also if you would like to receive it – I send it as a blind carbon copy so only your address appears on the e-mail, I have 31 signed up so far!
MONDAY, 6TH MARCH at 7.30 pm the Village Club meets in the Hall – the speaker is Andy Hutchins on “The Life of a Collector”. Andy is an avid magpie – local postcards, trains, Betjamen, Wainwright, John Wayne.... – I think it will be an interesting evening! Everyone welcome - visitors £2.00, year’s subscription £6.00.
BACK IN 1980’s the powers that be decided it might be a good idea to put a power station out on Herbury, the point of land sticking out into the Backwater, between Langton Herring and Fleet - SOME of you might remember that there was a big protest action set up to fight it.
OVER a glass of wine in the Elm Tree, it turned out that a lot of people now living here know nothing about it – hence there is a plan afoot to write a ‘History’ about it – this is where you all come in! Anyone that has the odd memory or two about that time, jot it down/write a screed and let us know. Judy remembers things I don’t, and I’m sure the same goes for you. Come on – get the grey cells working, they need exercise like our bodies!
THE ROTAS for flowers and brass cleaning are now in the Church porch & they are looking very empty! Flowers by the altar (there is a fund to buy them if you haven’t enough in your garden) and shining brass make the Church looked loved & cared for, and is appreciated by our visitors – you don’t need to actually attend, to want to see it looking nice! If you can fill in even one week it would be a great help – for any details contact Mandy, Judy or myself. Thank you.
DON’T FORGET that Wednesday night 8.00pm is Scrabble and Games night at the Elm Tree – come and have some fun!
