Firstly, I’ve been asked by Dave Stevens of the Strangways hall committee to remind everyone about the carol singing on 16th December. We will be meeting at the hall at 6pm, so do come along and don’t forget there will be mince pies and mulled wine to warm us up. Hopefully it won’t be too cold or wet and don’t worry if you’re not much of a singer no one will mind! Don’t forget your torch and to wrap up warm.

Also, this week is the children’s service at St Nicholas church on the 15th December where all are invited to join the school for their seasonal celebration. The children will be brought over from Portesham school and the service is at 1.30pm.

On Sunday 18th December there will be a fun day at the Ilchester Arms. This will involve a Christmas party for the children with live music and games too. The event has been kindly organized by Colin at the Ilchester to raise funds for the playground. It is also a thank you to loyal supporters of the pub.

The events are as follows; 4.30.pm. to 8.30.pm Children’s Christmas party for all local children with a visit from Father Christmas. Live music from 7pm ‘til late from “Left Right and Centre”, “Gut and Steel” and “Jellicote cats”. Finally, the grand auction and prize draw “with the things that money just can’t buy” at 10.30pm so get in touch if you want to buy tickets or make a donation at the Ilchester Arms on 01305 871243.

Continuing the Christmas theme, the Abbotsbury and Portesham British legion are having a special Christmas concert featuring the Durnovaria Silver band at Portesham village hall on Friday 23rd December at 7.30pm which is open to everyone and includes festive music and carols for everyone to join in the second half, just to get you in the mood for the holiday season. Tickets are still available from Malcolm Pugh 01305 871001 or John Perry 01305 871346 at £6 each. It will be a wonderful festive occasion, so please come along.
