MORE people will get a chance to play beach volleyball in Weymouth after the borough secured two courts.
The professional equipment will be set up on the sands throughout the spring and summer to be used by clubs and locals.
The courts, worth £10,000, were secured after a successful bid to Volleyball England through its Go Spike campaign.
The kit consists of two complete sets of Funtec beach volleyball posts and two customised Go Spike-branded nets.
Graeme Sawyer of Weymouth Volleyball Club said: “It’s great news to have the volleyball courts.
“They will be a great asset to the development of beach volleyball in Weymouth and be available to local players, coaching and competitions as well as casual play.”
The courts, unveiled today, will be set up on the beach near the Pavilion from March until September and free of charge to all users.
The borough council’s spokesman for Culture, Tourism and Community Facilities Andy Blackwood said: “The news of this volleyball facility is great.
“A big thank you to Volleyball England and Go Spike and congratulations to the local volleyball club and Weymouth Events Team for their great efforts behind the scenes.”
