SCHOOLCHILDREN got in the spirit of 2012 by dressing up and making the Olympic logo in their playground.
The project at Damers First School in Dorchester was part of the work the school is doing in the run up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games.
The Olympic values such as respect, friendship and excellence are being worked into every aspect of the curriculum throughout the next year.
Pupils have been creating different portraits of themselves as part of the Faces of Britain record breaking attempt.
The project aims to break the world record for the number of portraits in one place at one time using a website where they can be uploaded.
The picture of the entire school dressed up as the Olympic rings will be used as part of that project.
Curriculum co-ordinator for 2012 Naomi Hudson said it had been a great day.
She said: “The children absolutely loved it. It was quite amazing. We had almost 400 children outside and they were so quiet, so calm and so focused. It was amazing.
“We had the rings marked out on the floor and people directing the children and they did so well.”
She added: “We are working the Olympic and Paralympic values into the whole school year.
“A lot of the Olympic ethos is about practising and trying your best and persevering.
“It’s about working hard, whether it’s at a sport or at maths or reading. It’s about doing your best.”
Mrs Hudson said that the project with recreating the rings had been to try and bring the portrait idea and tthe Olympics together.
