AN EXPLOSIVE device found near Wareham was blown up by the bomb squad.
Dorset Police received a report that a large boulder with a drill hole and wires had been discovered in a layby off the A352 next to Hethfelton Woods on Tuesday night.
A road closure was put in place between the Wool roundabout and the turning to Lulworth on the East Stoke road.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended but due to insufficient light the detonation was postponed until yesterday.
A Dorset Police spokesman said: “The ordnance was reported to us by a dog walker.
“The large rock had come from a quarry and it is unknown whether the ordnance had come up with it. The holes looked reasonably fresh so it might have been that the old piece of ordnance was attached later.
“It’s been blown up now.”
