Last year well over 2,000 people signed a petition to abort the move of the tourism office from Weymouth seafront to the Pavilion.

The move means the centre is now half a mile further away when approaching from Bowleaze direction and was made to prop up the ailing Pavilion.

Since then, many people will have just not bothered to make that one-mile round trip to ask where an attraction or whatever could be found.

Having said that, out of nowhere comes the news of an increased ‘footfall’ at the Pavilion. In a way, this does not come as a surprise as every time I enter the building, I take notice of others, and without fail, in the main, people enter and head for the toilet, the only one for miles around, they maybe browse the leaflets, then leave.

So, any footfall numbers should reflect the route taken once inside.

With the arrival of October, comes with it the expiry of the lease on the Pagoda to Haven. It would be a crime if this were to be extended, not just for the people of Weymouth that feel the TIC should have been left there, also for all those who campaigned to keep it there and signed the petition, to Ms Howe for her tireless work pounding the streets to gain those signatures, to all those many thousands of 2012 visitors.

WPBC must, even at this late stage, accept that it has made a big mistake and allow the TIC to come back to its rightful place.
