YOUNGSTERS in Chickerell are going football crazy with a fun-packed fundraising event.

Youfirst, the young people’s forum for Chickerell, is laying on a football-themed fun day for boys and girls aged five to eleven years old on Saturday October 8.

The event will be held at Chickerell Primary School’s playing field from 10am to noon and will include a warm up, a keepy uppy challenge, five-a-side games and a penalty shoot out competition.

Two accredited sports coaches from West Dorset District Council will also be on hand to teach youngsters new skills.

The session costs just £1, with funds raised from the day helping to pay for an under-18s club night at Willowbed Hall in Chickerell in December. Refreshments will also be available on the day.

It will be the second time Youfirst, which is being supported by West Dorset District Council community development officer Emma Scott, has held the football fun day and they are hoping to replicate the success of the previous event.

Youfirst member Billy Gardner said: “Our last event was such a major success, we didn’t expect so many kids to turn up – this time we’re hoping to get even more!”

Fellow member Fabian Peterkin said: “It’s great because all ages and abilities get involved, including the teenagers who run it all, and the kids said they wanted to do it again.”

As well as the two sports coaches, a further two CRB checked adults will also help supervise on the day.

Parents who are unable to stay with their children for the whole session can drop them off and pick them up at the end if they leave contact details.
