THE wildlife of a Dorset village has been given a boost with a new information board.
Trustees at Piddlehinton Millennium Green have put up a new board on the green to tell visitors about the birds, animals and insects that live there.
The board follows on from the success of the board on the banks of the River Piddle that was installed in 2008 to tell the families and young people that visit the area about the river’s inhabitants.
Research for the information board was conducted by Piddlehinton resident and sixth-former at the Thomas Hardye School, Marianne Bradley.
Last summer she researched the species on the green as part of her project for a Nuffield Science Bursary.
Puddletown artist Paul Matthews illustrated the sign which features swallows, foxes and butterflies.
Treasurer of the Piddlehinton Millennium Green Sue Hennessy said that the green was a source of pride for the community and the new sign would help to enhance the area.
She said: “It is a source of pride for the community. There is a real community involvement in the green. We are strong on involving the younger generation so that they take care of it. They are the future trustees.”
