A BIKER was knocked unconscious when he hit a deer on the A35.
The road was closed in both directions causing rush-hour traffic chaos yesterday morning.
The Wareham man was travelling towards Poole when he came off his motorcycle and was found in the road between Bere Regis and the Woodbury Cross turning.
A passer-by called for an ambulance for the motorcyclist just after 7am saying the biker on a red Honda motorbike had hit a deer.
Police closed the road between Bere Regis and Woodbury Cross and also made arrangements for the deer to be removed.
A force spokesman said the motorcyclist suffered a serious head injury The spokesman said: “We received a call from paramedics advising us a motorcyclist was unconscious in the road.”
He added that by the time the motorcyclist was taken to hospital he had recovered consciousness.
He added: “A deer was found in the road and a deer dispatcher was sent.”
A South Western Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed the crash was reported soon after 7am.
He said: “A single vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcyclist was reported to us.
“The person who made the call said the motorcyclist had struck a deer. We arrived on the scene and the patient was taken to Dorset County Hospital.
“The motorcyclist is believed to be around 40 years old.”
Collision leaves mini in ditch
A sePARATE crash also happened soon afterwards involving two cars after the A35 had been closed and rush-hour drivers were diverted.
The second crash happened just off the A35 at 8.50am when a black Mini Cooper ended up in a ditch after a collision with a Renault Clio owned by a woman from Broadstone.
Nobody was injured.
The Mini was being driven by a woman from Wareham who said she was left in shock.
The 28-year-old said: “It was dramatic as I ended up in a hedge but luckily no one was injured. The police were excellent, really kind and quick on the scene.”
As a result of the second collision the diverted traffic built up while police attended and moved the Renault Clio into a side lane.
Police also arranged for recovery of the Mini Cooper.
