TWO people were rescued from a burning building in the early hours of this morning.
They were led to safety by firefighters who were called to the blaze in East Street, Weymouth at 12.02am today.
Three fire engines from Weymouth and Portland attended the scene after reports that there were people trapped in the property who were unable to get out.
The third fire engine was on the scene in less than six minutes of being called.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus searched the property and rescued two people.
A Dorset Fire and Rescue spokesman said the fire started in the basement of the property and caused smoke damage to communal areas of the building.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
