TWO youths found guilty of a violent attack at a party on Portland have been warned they face ‘significant’ prison sentences.
Peter Gregson was left lying in a pool of blood after being attacked by two teenagers at a party in East Weare Road on April 23.
Following a trial at Dorchester Crown Court Joseph John Summers, 19, was found guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and 18-year-old Samuel David Bruce Braund was convicted on the lesser charge of unlawfully inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Summers, of Hanover Road, Weymouth, was also found guilty of assaulting Kelly Percival as she tried to intervene following the attack but was cleared of a charge of possessing a knife.
Both defendants were also found guilty of breaching their anti-social behaviour orders.
During the trial the jury heard how Mr Gregson had gone out to confront a group of youths who were being rowdy outside the party.
He was struck first by Braund, then the victim described Summers jumping off a wall to land a kick to his face.
Mr Gregson was knocked to the floor and witnesses described seeing him kicked as he lay on the floor.
The jury heard that Mr Gregson suffered a tripod fracture to the cheekbone as a result of the attack.
Giving evidence at the trial, Summers claimed it was not him but another youth who had attacked Mr Gregson and Braund said he had struck out in self-defence after he was hit first.
Miss Percival also told the jury how she tried to intervene when Summers was kicking out at another party guest and she was punched, spat at and kicked for her trouble.
On the sixth day of the trial the jury took around two hours to deliver its guilty verdicts.
The case was then adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
Judge James Meston told the defendants: “The need for a report from the Probation Service in this case is to help me to decide the appropriate sentence and the level of risk you may pose.
“I wish to make it clear that all sentencing options are open, which must include in the case of each of you a real possibility of a significant custodial sentence.”
Summers and Braund, of Queen’s Road, Portland, will appear at Bournemouth Crown Court to be sentenced on October 21.
Braund was released on conditional bail while Summers was remanded in custody.
