A MAJESTIC mahogany yacht turned heads when it arrived in Weymouth.

The 140ft Hetairos yacht, believed to be the largest mahogany yacht in the world, is anchored off the resort.

The impressive ketch took Abeking & Rasmussen shipbuilders 662 days to build and was a ‘unique challenge’ with the hull alone requiring 70mm of mahogany glued layer upon layer.

Hetairos’s exterior is the work of Bruce King Design while the interior was crafted by Andrew Winsch Design.

A Weymouth businessman is delighted to have assisted its trend-setting style – after his company kitted out the vessel with a £50,000 marine camera.

Andrew Chandler, of the borough based company Vector Developments Limited (VDL), said: “One of my clients anchored their brand new superyacht off Weymouth on Sunday and Monday.

“Our company VDL supplied the high-tech stabilised ‘Seenite’ night vision camera on board and they have stopped by in Weymouth so that we could make a service call.

“The camera we supplied, worth £50,000, was manufactured by companies on Portland and Weymouth, and tested in our offices in Wareham.”

Paul Dallaway, crew of White Motor Boats, said the sight of Hetairos capped off a ‘terrific day’ for his boat passengers returning from a Jurassic cruise on Sunday.

He said: “Hetairos looked fantastic and Weymouth Bay could have been the South of France, the people on board waved at our passengers.”
