In March I wrote and delivered by hand, a letter to the beach patrol department, and still have had no response.
I was requesting that there should be a boardwalk or matting placed on the beach for disabled access.
This should be easy – they already have the means as they have been used for several occasions, such as celebration day party when it was announced that we had won the Olympic venue; when the queen visited Weymouth and went on the beach to see the sand sculpture of Windsor Castle; and also on festival days such as seafood festival in July.
My husband is in a wheelchair and we would love to be able to spend time on the beach when our family visit, instead of sitting on the prom.
So therefore we were delighted to be able to join in the fun in July to watch the live bands playing at the festival.
There are beach wheelchairs, but these are not practical for my husband.
Now there are cafes on the beach with boards for tables and chairs, some of which he can access, but he would rather be on the actual beach with family and feel normal.
In other countries they cater for disabled for the beach and I think it is really bad of Weymouth council that they cannot have this facility.
After all, dogs have their own part of the beach! LINDA REYNOLDS Portland
