Portland fire station needs you.
That’s the call from island firefighters who are looking for new recruits to join the station.
Portland firecrews will be in Easton Square and Tesco’s car park from 10am to 2pm tomorrow to encourage more residents to consider a career as a retained firefighter.
The open event will give potential recruits the opportunity to ask any questions they might have. The crew will be available to discuss the opportunities and experiences of being a retained firefighter.
Station Commander at Portland Bob Terrey said: “This is a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in joining the retained firefighters on Portland to come along and have an informal chat. We are currently looking to recruit individuals who can provide cover in the area, in particular during the day.”
Chris Watters, a firefighter from Portland said: “I have found being a firefighter a real challenge and I enjoy constantly learning new things about the fire service. It also fits in really well with my family commitments and can be very flexible.”
