We are disgusted and somewhat ashamed of the coach arrival and departure stop opposite the Fairhaven Hotel on Weymouth seafront.

Recently we had occasion to use this stop to pick up and drop off our visitors to Weymouth. On their arrival we circled many times before finding a vacant parking space – it then cost us 70 pence just to walk across the road and collect our visitors and their luggage. On their Sunday departure after driving round many times, no space was available and we had no option but to face torrential rain on the Esplanade. The very small shelters on this part of the seafront were bursting with people with not one square inch for our visitors and their luggage.

What an impression of Weymouth visitors must have as they sit on their long return journeys, our visitors had a four-hour journey, cold and bedraggled.

No matter how good a holiday travellers have had this would cloud any good memories.

Weymouth needs, and has needed for many years, a proper coach station where travellers can sit in the dry and comfort to await their coaches, at the very least a decent shelter would help. This coach point did not even indicate that the National Express stopped there.

Enough money has been wasted in the name of the Olympics on needless amenities which will fizzle out after the event. How about Weymouth having some basic necessities that will give residents and visitors alike a lasting legacy?
