BOSSES have revealed how a fire engine crashed into a door at Weymouth’s new multi-million pound fire station.

The new £8.5m Radipole Lane base, incorporating a community fire station and safety centre, opened in July.

It is believed a crew of firefighters were preparing to head out of the new station on an emergency call when their appliance ploughed into the front door by accident, shattering panels.

The accident has not affected the running of the fire station, said Dorset Fire and Rescue Service which has launched an investigation.

The door has been boarded up and is awaiting repair.

The brigade would not comment on the details of the accident or say how much damage was caused because it didn’t want to compromise the investigation.

Service Delivery Manager for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service Alun Morgan said: “We are aware of an incident which occurred, causing damage when a fire appliance at the new Weymouth Community Fire Station contacted an up and over appliance bay door, as it responded to a call-out.

“We are currently investigating this incident, however the station remains fully operational
