MORE than 17,000 workers in Dorset could stage a walk out over the ‘theft’ of their pensions on November 30.
TUC bosses say the county has a solid base for strike action.
They say public servants are very angry about the government’s proposals to introduce a controversial increase in pension contributions.
Unison, the UK’s largest public worker union, has 15,000 members here and 1,900 people belong to the Public and Commercial Services Union, and there are 12 more public service unions.
Nigel Costley, the South West TUC’s regional secretary, says coupled with all the other pressures, the changes amount to ‘one of the most savage attacks on workers that we have ever seen’.
The national day of action in November might be the first of many, he added, unless real negotiations started.
