A MAN who struck an unwanted party guest with a metal wheel brace has had the terms of his suspended sentence order changed.

William Joseph Ireland, 22, was given a 10-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months in December last year after admitted a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm against Matthew Ditch.

The attack, at a Blandford party, left victim Mr Ditch with a depressed skull fracture and cuts to his ear.

As part of Ireland’s original sentence he was also ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the community and made subject to a curfew for 28 days. Ireland, of Schelin Way, Shillingstone, returned to court having completed around 76 hours of the unpaid work.

Rufus Taylor, representing the Probation Service, said that although the defendant had made positive progress a number of difficulties – including a wrist injury and episodes of anxiety and depression – meant that Ireland was unable to complete the remaining hours of unpaid work.

He told Dorchester Crown Court: “It is reported that he had worked well and achieved good results.”

Judge James Meston agreed to revoke the unpaid work requirement attached to Ireland’s sentence and imposed an additional 28-day curfew.
