TEAMS of dancers got into the groove at Weymouth Pavilion and raised £2,000 for a worthy cause.
The energetic dancers were led by ex-professional cabaret performer, Jo Thompson from SlimDance.
She said: “SlimDance is one year old and this event also marks the launch of a corporate partnership between SlimDance UK as a national entity and MacMillan which we are very excited about.”
People from all walks of life, aged from 10 to 70, joined in with the fun.
Groups of dancers were formed into 14 teams each with names such as ‘Pussy Cat Trolls’, ‘Monday Movers’ and ‘Jive Bunnies’.
They performed salsa, cha cha, meringue and jive to thrill spectators who gave individual donations of up to £100.
Debbie Jones of MacMillan said: “You could tell that everyone was having a really good time.
“There were lots of red faces but they were all putting 100 per cent into completing the challenge. “All the money raised will be going to those people who are affected by cancer to support them and their families.”
For every £24 that SlimDance raised the money pays for one hour of a MacMillan nurse’s working time. There are an estimated two million people in the UK living with cancer and that figure is predicted to double by the year 2030.
Debbie added: “The recent launch of the partnership with SlimDance is fantastic for future fund raising events and I would like to thank Jo at SlimDance and all of the organisers for putting huge amounts of effort into the event and launching the partnership in true style.”
With SlimDance in its year of inception and MacMillan celebrating its centennial the relationship development between the two organisations opens the door for more charity events on the dance floor.
