THE hospital’s chairman said it was time to focus on the future after Mr Smith’s costly interim team of directors was replaced with a permanent executive team.

Chairman of Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Dr Jeffrey Ellwood said: “We now have a strong permanent executive team in place and they, along with the support and hard work of all hospital staff, are getting DCH back on a firm footing.

“We have made great headway over the last 12 months, reducing our deficit and we are now planning for a £700,000 surplus in the current year, while maintaining excellent patient care.

“We, along with the NHS as a whole, face a tough year ahead, but we have already made good progress in getting the trust back on track and I am confident that DCH has a bright future.

“The amounts paid to the interim directors were presented openly in our annual report for 2009/10.

“I made it clear at our AGM that amounts paid during April, May, June and July 2010 before the permanent executive team had arrived, would be included in this year’s annual report, which is now available on our public website for all to see.”
