I would like to respond to the ongoing subject of school buses and the ridiculous situation we find ourselves in following the council’s decision to double the fare for our children to travel on a school bus.
Our family lives in Osmington and my daughter made the decision to go to All Saints school rather than her catchment school of Wey Valley because it is a faith school.
By making this choice we were immediately penalised and told by our local council that we would have to pay her fare to school but that this was heavily subsidised.
So last year we paid somewhere in the region of £200 for the year.
This in itself I found very unfair and wondered if we were of a minority faith this situation would be tolerated.
This year however we have been forced to pay the £400 for the year.
In Osmington we do not have the choice to use public transport, there is none that would get my daughter to school.
I am therefore left with the choice of giving up work to be able to transport her to school, not send her to school, move her to her catchment school and away from a school she loves or pay.
She is now one of the few mentioned on the Barrys bus but not because (as suggested) she has a concession but because we have been forced into paying a fee we can ill afford and should not have to pay.
