FREE blood pressure checks and demonstrations of self-checking monitors are being carried out at pressure stations around Dorset. A study in Dorset last year showed that of 146 people that were tested 26 per cent had high blood pressure and never even knew. According to the Blood Pressure Association one in three adults in the UK have the condition.
Mark Hooley head of communications and marketing at the BPA said: “It’s very important to get your blood pressure checked, as high blood pressure is responsible for 60 per cent of strokes and 40 per cent of heart attacks.
“High blood pressure is also a factor for kidney disease and dementia. As high blood pressure has no symptoms, the only way you know if you have high blood pressure is by having a quick check.”
This service is being offered at pharmacies including Asda, Weymouth and Tesco, Dorchester.
