A business event with a difference comes to Weymouth next week bringing together Dorset company bosses and the young people likely to be the county’s entrepreneurs of the future.
They will hear from four world-leading Dorset firms – Universal Engineering, Sunseeker, DEK and Ultra Electronics – about the innovation and creativity which has put them at the head of their field, and how other companies can benefit from the same approach.
Business-minded sixth form students will be able to join company owners and business people at the event, titled The Logic Of Innovation. Organised by Dorset Business Link, it will take place at Budmouth College on the evening of September 21, in the college’s state-of-the-art science hub.
Business Link’s Laura McHarrie said: “This Creative Cooperation event is unique, because it will be of real value to both existing business people and business students – the young people who may become entrepreneurs themselves.
“We will be hearing about some stunning business improvement techniques from Dorset businesses, and world leading developments in engineering and electronics, which have taken place on our doorstep.”
At the event there will also be a live demonstration of rapid prototyping from Phil Roberts of Laser Lines Ltd, specialists in the use of 3D printing – a cutting-edge technology, which is revolutionising the production of one-off parts and engineering models.
Phil Thomas of c4mbd will explore how the logic of value innovation, the cornerstone of ‘blue ocean’ strategies, helps companies move beyond competing on price.
Other Dorset-based businesses will show their innovations. Laura McHarrie said: “There is a chance for other companies to showcase their activities.”
Company owners who are interested in taking part should contact Laura on 01305 837063.
The event closes with insights from Vishwa Wijedasa of the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme about how focused networking can allow companies to share assets and exchange materials for financial benefit.
Included in the evening is a ploughman’s supper. Find details of the event at http://improvementevents.com and to book phone 01202 607544.
