COUNCIL chiefs are to crack down on fly-tippers after a large amount of garden waste was dumped in a small country lane.
The fly-tipped waste was found in Dullar Lane near Lytchett Matravers. The waste, a large amount of leylandii-type wood or hedge cuttings, was blocking half of the unlit narrow road.
Purbeck District Council spokesman for the Built Environment, Councillor Paul Johns said: “This was a totally irresponsible and illegal act and could easily have caused a serious accident on this narrow lane.
“It is possible that a nearby homeowner paid for a contractor to carry out work in their garden without the knowledge that the waste would be dumped. I would advise anyone who contracts someone to carry out work to check where the waste will be disposed.”
Neil Randall from the Dorset Waste Partnership, of which Purbeck District Council is a member, said: “Dumping waste illegally is a serious criminal offence, carrying a fine of up to £50,000, unlimited if the case goes to the crown court. You could also face a prison sentence of up to five years for fly-tipping.”
Purbeck District Council is seeking any information from the public, which will lead to the identification and apprehension of the person responsible.
Any information about this incident should be passed to the council’s environment and health team on 01929 556561 or by email envservices@purbeck-dc.gov.uk Information will be dealt with as strictly confidential.
