I refer to an article concerning the number of cars going the ‘wrong way’ on the one-way road system in Hope Square, Weymouth. But the truth is that there is no one-way system operating in Hope Square.
All we have is a sign forbidding cars to enter the system at Spring Road. It is not the same thing at all and it is dangerous to tell people it is so. What we have is a substantial number of cars parking off road in Hope Street, Hope Street South, Spring Road and the various converted brewery buildings which can all very legally travel both ways in the Hope Square area, and it is most dangerous of your paper to suggest anything else.
What we do have, and I speak from many years’ experience, are a great many holidaying jaywalkers who are walking in the road as if they have a brick wall built all around them.
The only ‘one way’ sign in this area is at the start of Trinity Street and that is quite a different sign than the one displayed at the start of Spring Road.
