A DORCHESTER couple will be showcasing their art work at an exhibition in the county town from today.
Barbara Kranefeld and Armin Hermann, of Fordington, have recently moved to Dorset from Germany and have since turned their home in Salisbury Street into a walk-in art gallery.
The couple are now holding an exhibition at No 6 Restaurant in North Square from today until August 13.
Artists Mrs Kranefeld, 61, and Mr Hermann, 64, moved from Germany to the county to spend their retirement painting.
A range of oil paintings will be on display at the exhibition including an Olympic-themed painting by Mr Hermann of two sailing boats.
There will also be two paintings that the German couple presented to No 6 to say thank you for supplying the venue for the free art exhibition.
Mrs Kranefeld – who most commonly paints flowers – used milk, coffee and sepia ink for the painting she presented to Sylwia and Christian Lohez of No 6. It is of two fish lying on the ground and it reads, ‘Looking forward to being part of Christian’s fish soup’.
Mr Hermann, who paints landscapes, painted the couple a No 6 logo with the restaurant inside the number six. Both of these will also be on display at the exhibition.
Mrs Kranefeld said: “We’re really excited about this.
“We have just had an exhibition in Swanage which was called Landscapes in the South West by Hermann, but this will be our first joint exhibition since we have moved from Germany which is really lovely for us.
“We hope to attract lots of people.”
Mr Lohez, owner of No 6, said: “I’m very excited about the exhibition. The paintings we have are not just of landscapes but also beautiful flower paintings. It’s really brilliant work.”
The free exhibition will be open between noon until late except for Mondays and Sundays until August 13.
