PURBECK residents are encouraged to nominate torch bearers for the Olympics.
Residents could win the chance of a lifetime to carry the torch through the area as it makes its way around the country in advance of the opening ceremony.
Purbeck Sports Centre, based in Wareham, is encouraging people to nominate friends and family. It wants inspirational people to apply to carry the Olympic torch, with each torch bearer having a story of personal achievement or contribution to their community.
Sports centre manager Terry Peterson said: “This really is an opportunity for us to celebrate the achievements of those Purbeck residents who go that extra mile.”
Anyone from the age of 12 upwards can be nominated to carry the Olympic torch, which will be carried through the district in 300m relays.
Residents can make their nominations at: www.london2012.com/olympictorchrelay or by telephoning 0800 111 6448. Leaflets can also be picked up from the Sports Centre reception at Worgret Road, Wareham.
