Abbotsbury ABBOTSBURY residents are asked to attend an extraordinary Abbotsbury Parish Meeting on Wednesday, June 22 at 7.30pm.
This meeting is to discuss the Abbotsbury chairman’s emotive suggestion that Abbotsbury Parish be removed from the Chesil Bank Parish Council.
Feelings are bound to run high over this topic. Come along and find out more about it.
ON Friday, June 10 the Abbotsbury and Portesham British Legion (RBL) put on a marvellous concert in the village hall in Portesham.
Weymouth Concert Brass Band entertained us with an eclectic programme of music.
The packed house thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the singsong at the end.
Thanks go to the organisers and also to the RBL ladies section that provided the refreshments. What wonderful cakes!
The proceeds from the concert will be divided between the Poppy Appeal and the Women’s Section Welfare charity.
HOW good it was to see Joy Reid, aged 94 and a resident of Abbotsbury for about 50 years before her move, at the launch party for her new book in the next village of Portesham.
Sitting with her friend Georgina who does her publicity, she signed the new book ‘Annie’s Case Book’ for the many friends and visitors.
She tells us that she is in the process of writing another one book, which apparently will be her last.
Well-done Joy.
STRANGWAYS Hall’s next Yard and Table top sale in aid of hall funds is on Saturday, June 18 from 10.30am – 3.30pm.
Refreshments will be available.
To book a table – cost £5 – call 01305 871629.
IT was good to see the rain but oh dear it started to pour through the church roof on Sunday despite the emergency covering laid on to protect it after the lead was stolen in December..
Thankfully local roofer Clive Haskins was again able to help out ably assisted by Roger Anderson of the church building committee.
They replaced the roofing felt in the wildest of wet weather, no easy task.
Grateful thanks go to both of them.
