DORSET people are among those being celebrated in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List published today.

Ten community-minded residents of the county have been honoured including Shaun Byatt from Weymouth. Mr Byatt, manager of the Dorset Mental Health Forum, received an MBE for his work in services to healthcare.

The Dorset Mental Health Forum is an independent charity started in 1992. Mr Byatt was unavailable for comment. Other Dorset recipients include Director of Strategic Development at South West Strategic Health Authority John Bewick, who lives in Lyme Regis. He was awarded an OBE for his services to the NHS.

Professor of Ecology Jeremy Ambler Thomas, from Blandford, received an OBE for his services to science.

There were a clutch of new MBEs including Dr Graham Archard from Christchurch for his services to healthcare, Broadstone resident Peter Smith-Nicholls, for his services to Macmillan Cancer Support in Dorset.

Other MBE recipients are Neighbourhood Watch volunteer John Shave from Wimborne, Raymond John Humphries, for services to the community in Shaftesbury and for his services to business, and Gilo Cardozo, the Director of Gilo Industries Research Ltd and Parajet UK Ltd.

The Queen’s Fire Service Medal went to Stephen Lee, Deputy Chief Fire Officer.
