Portland Marina has scooped five gold anchors under a scheme to help boat owners to find quality berthing.
The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA) has awarded the Dean & Reddyhoff’s marina at Osprey Quay with the maximum amount of ‘anchor’ points following an assessment of its facilities.
The Gold Anchor Award Scheme is a benchmarking tool designed to help boat owners make an informed decision about the quality of berthing facilities throughout the world.
Marinas that take part in the scheme undergo an assessment and the resident berth holders are surveyed for their feedback on an ongoing basis. The scheme is purely voluntary with awards ranging from one to five gold anchors.
Any award is a sign of quality, while the number of anchors indicates the level of the facilities available.
An assessor found that as the United Kingdom’s newest marina, Portland Marina boasts a ‘well-thought-out’ modern marina complex with excellent facilities for boaters plus an onsite restaurant, The Boat That Rocks.
Restaurant staff were described as ‘exemplary’ and the marina’s fun and informative website also received recognition.
The assessor found that the marina office offered further information on the local area and the marina.
Portland Marina, which will have 560 annual berths once completed plus visitor berths, is accessible at all states of the tide and with top sailing waters.
Marina manager Russ Levett said: “Ever since the conception of Portland Marina, Dean & Reddyhoff Limited have strived to provide a first rate facility, with uncompromising attention to the details that really matter to our customers and future customers’ needs.
“We are proud to have achieved TYHA’s standard of five Gold Anchors, and are especially pleased to have been the first to achieve this within the new stringent assessment criteria.
“We will fly our flags with pride.”
