As someone who has known Sandsfoot Castle since 1939 and who as a youngster has climbed on every part of it I can think of several more worthy causes to spend £194,000 on (has this been influenced by the Olympics?). As there is no mention of any work to prevent what is left of it falling into the sea, is this money being wisely spent or is it akin to the traffic scheme?
I also noticed the public will again be allowed access to the castle.
To the best of my knowledge there has always been a steel fence with a locked gate which prevented any legal access to the ruins.
In the days when the gardens had a resident gardener (George) I and all my mates have been chased out by him on many occasions.
There was no knowledge of Elf and Safety in those days but we survived.
One more item, is the large amount of money mentioned to bridge Newstead Road worth spending to increase the Rodwell Trail by about 400 metres?
