I COULD be wrong but I recall that us taxpayers would not have to finance the Olympic sailing to be held in 2012 at Portland (‘Council is to pay up an extra £100,000’, Echo, June 7).
Now we are told an amount of £370,000 to cover emergency costs will come from our councils.
To me and to many taxpayers this is disgusting considering the tough economic situation we are in.
Libraries are being closed, as are day centres, staff are being made redundant and there’s even talk of losing our lollipop people – sorry but this doesn’t add up to me.
Why should we have to pay for an elitist sport and even be charged to view from the Nothe Gardens?
Yes, we have had so many words about financial benefits from hosting these Games.
But we have falling trade in our shops because of the total road chaos and millions of pounds being spent just for 14 days next year.
It must be me – I do not have the rose coloured spectacles as must be worn by our council staff and councillors
