A man accused of dangerous driving on Portland has been cleared of the charge.

David Edward James Bowmaster, aged 29, of Chickerell Road, Weymouth, was found not guilty of a charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent following a trial in February.

He was accused of deliberately running over Benjamin Ashfield, which he denied.

The jury did not come to a decision over a further allegation of dangerous driving and the case was set for a retrial to consider that charge. However, at a hearing at Dorchester Crown Court prosecutor David Richards said that he would be offering no evidence in relation to the dangerous driving charge and would not seek a retrial.

Judge Roger Jarvis ordered that a second not guilty verdict be recorded.
