Local Mp Richard Drax was at the latest Lottery meeting in the community hall on Thursday 2nd June.

He and some 30 residents and supporters were there to discuss ideas and lend support to Littlemoors £1m lottery windfall.

After the meeting he stayed to chat to local people and wanted to help the process along. He had already had meetings with Lottery chiefs in London.

The £1m is intended to be used over the next ten years to improve the lot of those living, working or in education in the area.

Exactly how this will be done is yet to be decided, which is why these monthly meetings have been set up.

It’s hoped that, as time goes by, more and more people will become involved in discussions on how the money should be best spent.

A few weeks ago a grant of £10,000 was awarded to Littlemoor to fund newsletters and gatherings where groups of residents can talk over the ways to improve the area.

At last Thursdays meeting three young lads made a plea for the skate park off of Louviers Road to be upgraded with some of the money.

Local resident Malcolm Beeson advised that it could be some time before lottery money was released for specific purposes and so they should seek funding from other sources in order to get their project underway as soon as possible.

The Co-Op has already agreed to put a notice board up in their entrance and Synergy housing said they were looking at putting a notice board up on the estate so that residents would find it easier to find out about future meetings and events.

Both Facebookand Twitter pages have been set up for discussion about the lottery money and the website www.littlemoorlive.ning.com was up and running and already scores of residents have joined.

With regard to the website, volunteers were wanted to become site administrators for which training would be given.

Anyone interested in doing this should go to the site for further information and details.

Local resident Lisa Cooper said that a number of teenagers were concerned about the bad image that a few troublemakers had given to all the young people on the estate.

They wanted to correct this image by helping with local projects.

There are more details on the Littlemoor website about this.

I hope to be able to give you more information on this in the very near future. It was agreed that future meetings would be chaired by local residents on a rota basis.

The next meeting at the community hall will be on July 7th at 7.30pm and will be chaired by Malcolm Beeson.
