THE Dowsett family have been dealing with the break-in and thanked police and scene of crime workers for their swift response so that the garage could open yesterday.
Officers have been carrying out house-to-house enquiries and doing vehicle checks as the stolen car is not taxed or insured for use.
PC Daniel Kitton of Weymouth police is hoping to hear from anyone who may have seen any activity around Portland Road from around 3am yesterday.
He said: “We are looking for the vehicle and hopefully that will lead us to whoever committed the crime.
“If anyone has got any information can they call us?
“And if anybody has seen a large abandoned safe can they call us as those responsible will have to dispose of it.”
The registration of the stolen car is W497 YAP.
Anyone with information can call PC Kitton on 01305 222222 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
