I don’t like putting a damper on ‘good news’ stories. Heaven knows there are so few of them.

But headlines proclaiming more jobs in the retail food sector worry me.

Why? Because someone is bound to lose out.

Hundreds of jobs at the new Sainsbury’s and 130 new jobs at the ASDA extension, must, unless there is suddenly a large influx of new consumers in the area, mean that other stores and corner shops (if any still exist) will lose customers and therefore have to shed jobs or, perhaps, close.

Or am I missing something?
