A BUS providing insights into the work of the Red Cross is stopping off in Dorchester.

The Big Red Cross Bus is on a nationwide tour recruiting volunteers and will be at the county town market in Weymouth Avenue from 9am to 2pm on Wednesday, June 15.

The double-decker bus boasts an onboard charity shop and volunteering centre for people who want to find out more about how they can make a difference to the lives of others.

On board there will be competitions, first aid demonstrations and local Red Cross volunteers to share their experiences.

Sarah Gibson, operations director for the Red Cross in Dorset, said: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Red Cross and lifelines to the hundreds of thousands of people they help.

“We have 556 volunteers in Dorset at the moment and we want to give even more people in the county the opportunity to share that experience.

“Volunteering gives you the chance to meet new people and gain new experiences. For those perhaps looking for work, it can enhance a CV. We’re looking for people who want to make a difference in their own communities and to the lives of others.”

On Saturday, June 18, the Red Cross will also be celebrating its centenary in Dorchester with an event at Maumbury Rings.

Staff and volunteers will be putting on displays and demonstrations and there will be refreshments, music and children’s entertainment.
