RESIDENTS who can offer as little as an hour of their time are being asked to attend a “volunteering showcase” at Weymouth Pavilion.
The event is being held today to help organisations who rely on the help of unpaid work, including the Soul Food charity, Weymouth’s Old Town Hall and the Second Chance charity that provides furniture for families.
Also among the exhibitors will be Weymouth College, hoping to recruit for their Personal Best Programme which includes 20 hours of volunteering and guarantees students an interview for volunteering during the Olympics in Weymouth and Portland.
Sue Follan of the Weymouth Community Volunteers, said: “If you have an hour, a day, or a week to spare come along and see what’s on offer.
“Be a part of the Big Society, make new friends, share your skills, knowledge and experience with others but most importantly have fun.
“A variety of local organisations will be showcasing their work and hoping to recruit volunteers with time on their hands for local good causes.”
The showcase is open from 10am to 2pm with free admission and refreshments on sale.
