DORSET women are being urged to swap their old clothes at a Frock Market in Dorchester.

Woman’s Action Network Dorset (WAND) is holding the event for the fourth time to raise funds for next year’s Dorset Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the economic, social and political achievements of women and the celebrations in Dorset are organised by WAND. The Frock Market will take place at Corn Exchange on Friday from midday to 5.30pm.

Sue Bickle, WAND spokesman, said the frock market would help raise cash for next year’s Dorset Women’s Day while enabling women to spruce up their wardrobes.

She said: “Many woman have some items of clothes, shoes and accessories that they may have only worn a few times or some good quality clothes that no longer fit.

“We thought that a frock market would be an ideal way of both raising cash for women and a way of being able to buy a new outfit at a fraction of the cost while also helping WAND to raise funds. In total 30 per cent of the proceeds will go towards Dorset Women’s Day 2011 and Reclaim the Night and the remaining 70 per cent will go to the sellers.

“Previous events have been great fun, with many people coming away with a bargain or making a bit of money on the items they sell.”

WAND committee members will be staffing the event so sellers do not have to be present.

However they need to register for a seller’s number and information pack.

The Frock Market is being supported by West Dorset District Council and its community support team.

Emma Scott, community development worker for the district council, said: “We hope women will come along and have some fun, get some new clothes or accessories and find out a little bit more about WAND. “This is an inventive approach to fundraising as well as helping woman to save money in this current climate.”
