Head of the force’s Traffic Unit Chief Inspector Bob Nichols, right, said: “I am particularly keen to appeal to drivers under the age of 30.
“Our statistics show that drivers under 30 are continuing to risk their lives, and the lives of other innocent road users, more than any other age group by drinking and driving.
“If a member of the public suspects someone is driving or about to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, they should dial 999 and report the details to the police so that we can intercept that vehicle.
“Also, if a member of the public has information about regular drink or drug drivers, they should contact Dorset Police in confidence on 01305 222222 to report this.”
People who are caught drink-driving face a minimum of a 12-month driving ban, a criminal record, up to six months in prison and a fine of up to £5,000.
Chief Insp Nichols added: “If you’re going out drinking, take simple steps such as booking a taxi, having a designated driver in your group of friends or arranging overnight accommodation. Do not risk your life, or the lives of innocent road users, for the sake of a drink.”
