BEAMINSTER’S Young Farmers have won a cookery competition.

The three-strong team of Lucy Wallbridge, Matt Fram-pton and Ellie Norris were competing at the 64th Dorset Young Farmers’ rally as part of of Cornish Mutual’s ‘Come Together, Eat Together’ campaign.

Clubs from across the county had to create three favourite family dishes on two rings, in an hour, including one sweet, one savoury and one for a dinner party.

They also had to provide a menu card, details of the recipes and an outline of the costs involved.

Cornish Mutual’s local insurance Inspector Chellie Elkington picked Beaminster YFC team as the winners of the first prize of £50 each.

Rural insurance firm Cornish Mutual launched the campaign ‘Come Together, Eat Together’ in February this year to encourage families in Dorset to eat a meal together at least once a week.

Chellie Elkington said: “Young farmers are the future and the lifeblood of the agricultural industry in Dorset so it’s important to support their development. The YFC is a vital part of the rural community and we’re delighted to be working with them.

“We’re thrilled that Dorset’s Young Farmers Clubs have been getting involved with the ‘Come Together, Eat Together’ campaign. All of the young chefs taking part in the competition did a great job, and we hope that they continue to develop those skills cooking their family meals in the future.”

Meg Cleal, rally secretary for the Dorset Federation of Young Farmers Clubs added: “The rally day has been a great success from start to end, all the competitors enjoyed the challenge and learnt something from the class, and I hope they have managed to take some skills and recipes away with them for the future.”
