I am researching my husband’s family history. His great grandfather, Boniface Knotz, came to England in 1851 from the Black Forest, Germany.
Apart from one or two exceptions, the only people in this country with the name ‘Knotz’ are descendants of this man.
They have mostly lived in the London area. My husband’s father changed his surname to Knotts just before the Second World War and was the only family member to do so.
In my research, I have discovered that the mother of Hugh G McArthur, born 1937, and his brother Anthony H McArthur, born 1938, both of Weymouth, had the maiden name Knotz.
I would be interested to find out if there is a family connection.
